Interlibrary Loan
In the event that an item is not available through our collections, we offer Interlibrary Loan Service (ILL) to circulate items from other libraries. To request request books and articles through ILL, please use the link below.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service provided by the GBSC Campus Libraries for current employees and students.
Student ILL Policy
ILL is provided for students of the college. A $2.50 charge per item may be assessed. Students may request and/or have checked out up to 5 items at one time. All ILL-related charges will be billed to the student’s account.
Employee ILL Policy
Faculty and staff members may request and/or have checked out up to 10 ILL items at one time.
Requesting/Receiving Items
To request an item please fill out the request form as completely as possible. Library ILL staff are not responsible for finding and supplying missing item information. If the request is incomplete, the you will be emailed for the remaining information. If the wrong item is received because of incorrect information given, you will be responsible for the applicable charges. If assistance is needed to complete the item request form, please go to the Circulation Desk at the GBSC Flexon Library for assistance or contact the ILL Coordinator.
Receiving ILL items may take up to 2 – 4 weeks depending on the lending library.
ILL items may be picked up at the Circulation Desk in the Flexon Library upon receipt of notification. Hard copies of ILL items may not be shipped at any time. ILL fee must be paid prior to or upon item pick-up.
Items received by ILL will be held for 3 days (not including Sunday) after you have been notified. If the item is not picked up during that period, the item will be returned to the lending library. You will be responsible for the charges incurred by the loan even if they do not pick up the item and a fee of $15.00 will be added to your account. If extenuating circumstances occur (family emergency, illness, etc), please submit an exception/extension request to interlibraryloan@gbs.edu for consideration.
Returning ILL Items
Items should be returned via the book drop at the Flexon Library Circulation Desk.
All ILL items are subject to recall at any time by the lender. You will be notified of updated due dates and recalled items via the email address they provide at the time of request. You will be charged overdue fees for items that are not returned by the updated due date.
Renewing an ILL Item
If you wish to renew an ILL item, the request must be submitted at least 3 business days in advance of the due date. This ensures that the ILL staff has adequate time to submit a renewal request and receive the extension or the denial. All renewal requests must be submitted to interlibraryloan@gbs.edu.
ILL Overdue Fees
All overdue ILL items (excluding electronically delivered items) will be charged at a rate of $1.00/day. Replacement costs will be charged to your account for long-overdue items (items overdue two weeks or longer). Accounts with overdue ILL items will automatically be restricted and you will be unable to check out further items from GBSC Libraries or via ILL until the items have been returned and fees have been paid.
Lost or Damaged ILL Items
If an ILL item is lost or damaged, you will be responsible for the fees assessed by the lending library which owns the item. Items may not be physically replaced; the lending library will ascertain the appropriate amount to be billed and the cost will be added to your account. GBSC’s ILL department also charges a $10.00 processing fee for each lost or damaged item.
General Policy
The Library Director and the ILL Coordinator reserve the right to deny ILL requests. Any ILL request made by you with account fees over $5.00 or items that are overdue by greater than 30 days will automatically be denied.
Some libraries do not lend the following items or it may take GBSC’s ILL staff longer than usual to obtain: physical copies of periodicals, audio and visual material, reference material, textbooks, items published within the last year, items held by international libraries, and rare or fragile items. Depending on the availability of an item, it may take longer to process some requests. Please indicate the date after which you no longer need the item in the “Not Wanted After Date” field, if applicable.
If you wish to borrow items for recreational purposes are encouraged to check for local libraries which own the item.
Copyright Statement
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of those specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order, if in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
